Take Your Dog to Work Day was created by Pet Sitters International (PSI) and was first observed in 1999. This year, it falls on June 20^th.

PSI founded the day to encourage businesses to let dogs in the workplace for one Friday each year to celebrate dogs as companions and encourage their adoptions from local shelters and rescue groups. PSI believes that through the event, co-workers will be encouraged to adopt a dog looking for a new home. The week leading up to Take Your Dog To Work Day is Take Your Pet To Work Week. These two holidays are a trademark of Pet Sitters International.
